
Algerian Baklawa with Almonds and Honey
This Algerian baklawa is a pure delight that evokes celebrations in Algeria. You'll be amazed by its crispy yet melting texture, thanks to the honey-scented syrup. Ingredients
- Brick sheets500 g
- Ground almonds300 g
- Melted butter200 g
- Icing sugar100 g
- Orange blossom water2 tbsp
- Honey250 g
- Syrup: sugar200 g
- Syrup: water150 ml
- Syrup: lemon juice1 tbsp

Mix ground almonds, icing sugar and orange blossom water to form a homogeneous filling.

Butter a rectangular dish, place a brick sheet, butter it, repeat to form a base of 5 sheets.

Spread the almond filling in an even layer, then cover with remaining sheets, buttering each layer (5-6 sheets).

Cut the baklawa into diamonds with a sharp knife. Bake at 180°C for 35-40 minutes until golden.

Meanwhile, prepare the syrup: boil sugar, water and lemon juice, then simmer for 10 minutes. Add honey and mix.

Upon removal from oven, pour hot syrup over the still-warm baklawa. Let soak for at least 4 hours before serving.
